Russia: Crimea marks
second anniversary of reunification with Russia in Simferopol
Published on Mar 16, 2016
Thousands of Crimeans took to the streets of
Simferopol on Wednesday, to mark two years since the historic referendum that
saw the peninsula vote to re-join the Russian Federation. A march through the
city centre involved cossacks, soldiers, militia members, as well as local
officials.
SOT, Sergei Aksyonov, Crimean Prime Minister (Russian): "In this case, friends, we got together, performed a civil feat, defended our homeland, defended our land, defended our choice. Because of our unity it passed without a drop of blood. This is our common achievement, friends: we have proven that decisiveness and the unified actions of people who want to protect themselves, to protect their culture, their home, will always lead to success."
