Donbass is tired of waiting

The authorities and residents of the Donetsk People's Republic will not wait for years until Kiev deigns to perform the points of the Minsk Agreements, necessary to hold the elections in the DPR. It was announced by the Head of the Republic Alexander Zakharchenko in his blog.

According to Zakharchenko, if Ukraine fails to implement the Minsk Agreements until this autumn, the country will hold a plebiscite.

‘In any case, I have already said many times that we need the local elections for ourselves, to finish the state building. This means that we will not tolerate this situation forever. If the European Union and the United States do not force Kiev to fulfil its obligations in an acceptable and reasonable period of time, we will hold the elections ourselves, by our own laws. I believe that foreseeable and reasonable terms is the year of 2016. It is clear that we do not have enough time to do it in summer, because we are interested in observing all the formalities, including those of the Ukrainian side. But by the autumn is quite a real term.

We are willing to tolerate it until the autumn. Then, it is the winter period which, in the conditions of economic blockade by Ukraine, requires a lot of efforts from the Donetsk authorities. So, we need legitimate local authorities., We will not wait until in Kiev appears a special political combination. Let Washington push for this combination today, while there is time,’ said Zakharchenko.

Curiously enough, the need to strengthen the implementation of the Minsk Agreements was also voiced by the Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland who visited Russia where she held negotiations with representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov.

After the consultations Nuland said that, to implement the Minsk Agreements, it was the time to ‘put pressure on the gas’, said Will Stevens, the US Embassy's press secretary in Russia, on Twitter.
