Statement of Denis
Pushilin, the DPR plenipotentiary at negotiations in Minsk, about Turkish
authorities’ double standards
Thursday,
November 26, 2015 - 11:25
The
situation around the Syrian conflict, as well as the attitude of the Turkish
government to ISIS terrorists, is increasingly reminiscent of the principles of
the double standard policy.
Turkish
diplomats repeatedly stated the importance of counter-terrorism and fight
against the ISIS while simultaneously voicing disagreement with the actions of
the Russian Federation in Syria. And the fact that a Turkish fighter jet shot
down the Russian SU-24 which was taking part in anti-terrorist operations in
Syria and didn’t present any threat to Turkey is a direct proof of it.
Such
actions of the Turkish government can be regarded as unceremonious violation of
all norms of the international law. We express absolute solidarity with the
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the majority of the
Russian people and regard negatively Turkey’s policy of double standards in
relation to terrorists and the situation in the Middle East.
No one
knows better than citizens of the Donetsk People’s Republic what the policy of
double standards means. When the US and Europe enthusiastically greet the “revolution
of dignity” in Kiev, which, in its core, is a coup d’etat with the radical,
pro-fascists elements coming to power, and, at the same time, condemn and
criticise the actions of activists of Donbass defending their rights and
freedoms. When European leaders hear, over moans and cries of dying people of
the Donetsk People’s Republic, only Poroshenko’s promises on the peaceful
settlement of the conflict. When we were condemned in absentia and called
terrorists just because we had dared to resist the trampling of our rights.
The
policy of double standards and flirting with real terrorists threaten Turkey
and the entire Europe with disastrous and even tragic consequences.
We call
on the international community to learn from history and today’s realities. You
should not indulge the major geopolitical players to the detriment of your own
people.
