Crime rate in Crimea
declined considerably, nothing threatens safety of holidaymakers – prosecutor
A
considerable decline in the overal scope of offences has been observed in
Crimea, Natalia Poklonskaya, acting Prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea, told
Rossiiskaya Gazeta in an interview, Itar-Tass reports.
"The criminogenic situation on the (Crimean) Peninsula has
improved appreciably. As compared with last year, a decline in the overall
number of crimes is observed. The Prosecutor's Office has established close
contacts with the Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service, and the
Emergencies Control Ministry the subdivisions of which have been already set up
and successfully function in Crimea,"
she pointed out.
The
head of the regional prosecutor's office assured the readers that nothing
threatens the safety of holidaymakers.
"The situation is absolutely safe. Crimea's people have been
always famed for their kindness and hospitality. Come to Crimea and do not be
afraid of anything: we shall be glad to see you, and we shall ensure the safety
and protection of the constitutional rights of all citizens who will be on the
territory of ancient Tauride,"
Poklonskaya pointed out.
Acting
prosecutor general of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya is not afraid of criminal
charges filed against her in Ukraine. She is wanted there for “actions aimed at
overthrowing the constitutional order or the seizure of power”. “I know that charges were filed against me in Ukraine, that I
was put on a wanted list there. I am not afraid of it, my conscience is clear,”
said Poklonskaya.
She
added that on February 25 she officially resigned from her post, because
"she was ashamed of living in a country where neo-fascists could freely
walk in the streets." According to RIA Novosti, she said that she always
followed the laws, and that it is those who went against the will of the people
and seized power who should fear retribution.
Poklonskaya
was appointed the prosecutor general of Crimea, when after a referendum the
peninsula declared its independence and subsequently joined Russia. According
to the media, four candidates before her were offered the position she occupies
now and all of them refused. Poklonskaya explained that she took the job
because she considered the actions of the new authorities in Kiev outrageous.
She "could not tolerate all that lawlessness and wanted to show the people
what protection is, what law is, how everyone is equal under the law; what
power is, and that power belongs to the people."
Poklonskaya
plays fortepiano and likes painting. She's divorced, has a daughter. Only a few
days after her appointment, this frail blue-eyed blonde became the star of the
Japanese social networks. Later she also attracted the attention of Internet
users from other countries. Due to her increasing popularity the Prosecutor
General's Office of the Russian Federation issued a formal statement, declaring
that the head prosecutor of Crimea has no social network accounts or blogs, and
that all information pertaining to the activities of her office is available on
the official websites.

General Prosecutie for you: Crimea’s Poklonskaya promoted to new rank

Natalia
Poklonskaya, Crimea’s chief prosecutor, who came to prominence during the
peninsula’s controversial partition from Ukraine, has been promoted. She is now
a major general equivalent.
The
promotion is one of 80 ordered this week by Russian President Vladimir Putin
among officers of the military, the police, the prosecution, the investigative
committee, customs and other law enforcement agencies.
Poklonskaya’s
rank was raised form chief justice councilor to state justice councilor 3rd
class, which corresponds to a promotion from colonel to major general in the
Russian military or the police force.
Her
previous promotion came in March 2014, days after being appointed acting chief
prosecutor of Crimea by the prosecutor general. The appointment was made
permanent two months later.
Poklonskaya,
35, rose to global prominence during the turbulent secession of Crimea from
Ukraine and reunification with Russia. At a media conference she spoke up for
rebellious local authorities, denounced the armed coup in Kiev and declared
Crimea’s refusal to submit to the new Ukrainian authorities. Her harsh words
and stern expression contrasted greatly with her cute blond appearance and
unusual voice, sparking an instant internet meme.
She
is among the public figures, who were personally slapped with travel and
financial sanctions by the European Union for her role in the fateful events.
In Ukraine she is wanted for conspiracy to overthrow lawful authorities.
Crimea
rebelled against the coup-imposed authorities in Kiev, which took power after
ousting President Viktor Yanukovich in February 2014. Local residents voted
overwhelmingly for breaking away from Ukraine and requested Russia to take
Crimea under its sovereignty, which was granted in March.
Kiev
and its foreign backers consider the move illegal and imposed through force.
However, Moscow insists it was a proper execution of Crimea’s right for
self-determination, as stated in the UN Charter.
