The
European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected three complaints from residents
of Donetsk and Lugansk region, who demanded that Ukraine offset the cost of the
housing they lost as a result of the “anti-terrorist operation” in Donbass.
This was stated in the judgment published in Strasbourg on Thursday, July 28th.
Despite
the fact that the applicants provided photo evidence of the destruction of
their homes during the armed conflict, and the OSCE reports confirming the
attacks, the ECHR unanimously rejected the complaint as it was not sufficiently
substantiated. Also, the applicants argued that because of the attacks they
could have died. The court justified the refusal by saying that the applicants
did not provide information to local authorities, which would have confirmed
their property rights to the destroyed house. In particular, the court found
that the claimants initially provided only their passports as evidence, which
is not sufficient justification for their complaints,” stated the message of
the ECHR. The document states that the decision is final.
